City delays SAFER grant application

The Canandaigua City Council has delayed apply for a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant until they can get more information on the true cost of the grant.
A study prepared by the Massachusetts-based Matrix Consulting Group last fall recommended the city add three professional firefighters to increase the on-duty personnel from three to four firefighters at all times.
City consultant Paul Bringewatt estimated a five-year cost of $1.46 million for the city if the council approves the fire department’s recommended staffing changes, including the three additional firefighters and four on-duty personnel at all times
