Hurricane Ike visits Upstate New York

Wind leftover from Hurricane Ike hit the area last night, causing downed trees and power outages. Wind speeds were clocked at about 60 miles per hour at the Rochester airport overnight.
Rochester Gas & Electric and National Grid report more than 3,000 outages in Monroe County and nearly 2,000 in Ontario County. Crews are working to restore power to those affected.
Numerous Ontario County Fire Departments have been responding to storm related calls since before midnight. Although the pace has slowed down considerably, there are still numerous areas with trees and/or wires down.
Residents are reminded be cautious during clean-up and if you notice downed wires or damaged electrical equipment, contact appropriate utility personnel. downed electrical wire safety
