Grant received to purchase new Radios – Victor

The Victor Fire Department recently announced that it has been awarded a 2011 Assistance to Firefighter’s Grant for a regional radio interoperabilty project in the amount of $382,180.

The grant will fund the purchase of 6 base station radios, 30 mobile radios, and 83 portable radios for the Victor Fire Department, Fishers Fire District, Farmington Fire Department, and Victor Farmington Ambulance to be used on the new Ontario County 700mhz public safety radio system which is currently under construction.

Extrication Training – Bristol

World Rescue Extrication Consulting and Training (WRECT) will be holding a extrication training class at the Bristol Fire Department on April 23, 2011.

This will be an advanced class and feature safety, new vehicle technology and how it impacts the fire service. There will be extensive hands on training in new rescue techniques and proper hydraulic tool usage. The maximum class size is 20 with Bristol having 5 spots.

There is a $100.00 cost per person. Lunch will be provided by WRECT. This class is not for individuals with little or no extrication experience. It will be a full day of training concentrating on safety and improvement of extrication skills.

Change in Dispatch Process – Fisher

For nearly 40 years, the Monroe County 911 center has dispatched the Fishers Fire Department. It was recently announced that by the end of the year, Ontario County 911 operators will take over that responsibility.

Open House – Fishers

The Fishers Fire Department will be having an open house on Saturday April 24th from 12-5 PM at Station # 2 located on High Street.

The New York State Police will be conducting a child safety seat inspection from 12-2pm. At 3pm we will be having an extrication demo, as well as offering fire extinguisher training throughout the day.

City of Canandaigua nears decision on FD staffing

Canandaigua city council held an unofficial straw vote at the budget wrap-up meeting Tuesday night. The official vote on the final budget will take place at Thursday night’s (December 3rd) council meeting.

If the budget passes Thursday, the city department will be reduced from 14 to 10 positions at the start of next year and from 10 to six full-time posts on July 1.
