Structure Fire – East Bloomfield

The East Bloomfield Fire Department was dispatched this morning to the area of North and Townline Roads for a reported barn fire. While enroute, further updates from dispatch reported a working fire possibly in the Fisher Fire District. Command went on location with a fully involved barn with an exposure problem.

Departments responding to the scene included the Victor, West Bloomfield, Bristol, Ionia, and Bushnell’s Basin. The fire was called under control in approximately 15 minutes. The barn was destroyed, and the exposed garage suffered minor damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation. MPNNews article with photos

Structure Fire – Port Gibson

The Port Gibson and Clifton Springs (Automatic mutual aid) Fire Departments were dispatched to County Road # 27 for a report of a possible structure fire with a house filling with smoke and the occupants evacuating.

Command went on location being waved in with nothing show. Further updates from command reported a fire in the wall that was quickly called under control.

Sweeping Away Cancer benefit

Hundreds attended the “Sweeping Away Cancer” benefit in Geneva Sunday night to remember Assistant Chief Matt Foe of the White Springs Fire Department. Nine years ago Foe was diagnosed with brain cancer,and since then, Foe has been an advocate for fire fighter benefits. Foe has been working with Senator Nozzolio, Assemblyman Kolb, and the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) to improve the law that protects volunteer fire fighters in cases where cancer is involved. Unfortunately last week, Foe lost his battle with the disease.

Fatal Accident – East Bloomfield

East Bloomfield Fire and Ambulance were dispatched this afternoon to an accident on Maple Ave with a report of 2 people trapped. Command went on location with a 2 vehicle accident and requested a second ambulance from Finger Lakes to respond to the scene. It has been reported that 1 person is confirmed dead, and there is possible another fatality.

Update: It is now being reported by the State Police that 2 people have died due this accident.

Structure Fire – Geneva

The Geneva Fire Department was dispatched this afternoon to William Street in the City for a reported garage fire. While en route, dispatch updated responding units of multiple calls reporting the fire. Command went on location with a working garage fire located on Linwood Ave. The fire was quickly called under control, and no injuries were reported.

Grant received to purchase new Radios – Victor

The Victor Fire Department recently announced that it has been awarded a 2011 Assistance to Firefighter’s Grant for a regional radio interoperabilty project in the amount of $382,180.

The grant will fund the purchase of 6 base station radios, 30 mobile radios, and 83 portable radios for the Victor Fire Department, Fishers Fire District, Farmington Fire Department, and Victor Farmington Ambulance to be used on the new Ontario County 700mhz public safety radio system which is currently under construction.

Structure Fire – Oaks Corners

The Oaks Corners Fire Department was dispatched this evening to the Bohner Road for a reported barn fire. While en route, command requested Phelps and Marbletown Fire Departments be placed on standby.

Units went on location with a working fire and requested tankers from Phelps and Marbletown and an additional tanker from the Junius Fire Department. Additional mutual aid was requested from Northside for a tanker and Geneva to fill-in at Oaks Corner’s station.

The fire was called under control in approximately 30 minutes, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Victor Fire Department recently did a controlled burn of a 3 story structure and a ranch house.

Departments assisting with burn were the Fishers, Egypt and Farmington Fire Departments.

The Manchester and Port Gibson (automatic mutual aid) Fire Departments were dispatched this afternoon to Hosey Road for a reported barn fire.

Command went on location with a garage fire going good. Additional mutual aid was requested from Palmyra FD and the Shortsville FD provided stand-by coverage for Manchester. The fire was called under control approximately 35 minutes into the incident, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Structure Fire – Clifton Springs

The Clifton Springs Fire Department was dispatched to Archer Road for a report of possible chimney fire.

Command went on location with nothing show. Further updates reported a working fire in the walls and attic, and mutual aid was requested from Hopewell, Manchester and the Shortville Fire Departments for tankers and manpower. The Phelps and Farmington Fire Departments provided fill-in coverage. The Fire was called under control in approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The Red cross was requeted to assist the residents and no injuries were reported.
